ECCF scholarship aids Mosier in pursuing nursing career

At the Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF), scholarships really do change lives. Olivia Mosier, a nursing student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, is grateful for the Michelle A. Campbell Memorial Nursing Scholarship she received from ECCF this year. Mosier stated, “Thank you for choosing me as a recipient of this scholarship. I really appreciate the support from my community as I am finishing up my schooling and preparing to commission into the Army and begin practicing with my RN license.” Olivia used her scholarship money to help with books, nursing supplies for clinical, and travel expenses to and from her clinical site in Pittsburgh this semester.

This summer, Mosier spent a month at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where she participated in a nursing summer training program through Army ROTC. Olivia said, “I applied for the position last fall and was ecstatic to learn this past spring that I had received my number one choice of hospitals at Brooke Army Medical Center. It was an amazing privilege to learn and work in the only level 1 trauma center in the Department of Defense. I head back to IUP to begin my nursing clinicals for pediatrics and obstetrics this fall.” The Campbell scholarship is available annually to a student enrolled as a second year student or higher in an accredited nursing program.

This year over $277,239 was distributed to deserving students, thanks to the all the donors who have established scholarships funds at ECCF. The Elk County Community Foundation Board extends their gratitude to our donors for contributing to the future of our community through their educational support. Grant applications for Ridgway Charitable Fund due September 15

The Borough of Ridgway Charitable Fund grant applications are now available, with an application deadline of September 15th. This special fund, held by the Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF), was designated by its donor, Sara-Jane Stackpole, to enhance the quality of life for Ridgway Borough residents. The Foundation encourages nonprofit organizations that will serve a particular need of the community to apply.

The Ridgway Charitable Fund’s purpose is to provide financial support to those non-profit organizations whose application reflects a purpose or project that will benefit Ridgway residents. It was Sara-Jane’s wish that the Foundation appoint an Advisory Board of five individuals to represent various groups of people residing in the Borough of Ridgway. Board members from this Advisory Board will review the applications and then make grant recommendations to ECCF’s Board of Directors for their consideration.

Elk County Fairgrounds receives $7,500 grant; more grants available to non-profits

St. Marys, PA: The Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF) awarded $7,500 to the Elk County Fairgrounds from the Harrison and Muriel Dauer Stackpole Family Fund. This fund is an open grant that supports worthy projects that provide services for the residents of our communities. Applications for the next round of grants from this fund will be accepted through October 15.

The Elk County Fairgrounds received a grant to pave a 431 foot by 12 foot area to improve access and mobility for any persons with disabilities to become ADA compliant. This grant allows them to be able to provide their many entertainment options to the entire community regardless of any limitations an individual may have. The Elk County Fair benefits six thousand people a year at their annual fair. They also rent buildings and grounds for other non-profit fundraisers, weddings, and church gatherings. Their goal is to provide a smooth, paved, safer, surface for all who enter the grounds.

Thousands of dollars in grants are currently available to 501c3 organizations, municipalities, and faith-based organizations through the Harrison and Muriel Dauer Stackpole Family Fund. Kayak for Kids successful fundraiser for Smile for Tyler Fund

Kayak for Kids successful fundraiser for Smile for Tyler Fund

The Smile for Tyler Fund, a donor advised fund held at the Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF), sponsored its 2nd annual Kayak for Kids event on Sunday June 11. Kayak for Kids is one of the fundraisers that supports the Smile for Tyler Fund. The combined 2021 and 2022 kayak fundraisers have awarded a total of $8,000 to the City of St. Marys Parks and Recreation from the Smile for Tyler Fund.

The Smile for Tyler fund was established at ECCF following Tyler Mancuso’s sudden passing at the age of 25 in 2020. Tyler loved to make people smile. Tyler’s family decided to try and make as many people smile as possible by doing something good for the community in his memory. To date, they have donated to the city to purchase the TruNarc device, raised money to purchase new equipment for Memorial Park, did a Smile for the Holidays, and donated gifts to the local hospitals for pediatric patients.

Local students receive Straub Brewery Scholarships

The Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF) recently visited the Straub Brewery Visitor Center to recognize the 2022 scholarship winners from the Straub Brewery Scholarship Fund, held at the Foundation. Straub Brewery has supported local students with this scholarship for seventeen years. These scholarships recognize high school seniors who have displayed outstanding qualities in academic achievement, leadership, and community service.

The Straub crew gathered along with the scholarship recipients for a congratulatory photo. Bill Brock, Straub Brewery President & CEO, in center of photo, congratulated scholarship winners, Jacquelyn Schatz from ECCHS, on his left, and Davan Lion from SMAHS, on his right, on their outstanding accomplishments. Jacquelyn will attend Slippery Rock University for Early Childhood and Special Education. Davan will attend Clarion University for Psychology and Nutrition. Missing from the photo were Holly Anthony from SMAHS, and Alexander Miller from ECCHS. Each were awarded $1,000.
