2012 Women Who Care Second Annual Spring Rummage Sale
Members of the Women Who Care, a project of the Elk County Community Foundation have begun work on the group’s second annual Spring Rummage Sale planned for Thursday and Friday April 26th and 27th.
The event will take place inside the Franklin Center, located in downtown St. Marys. The sale begins at 4 p.m. on Thursday and concludes at 8 p.m. on Friday they will open at 8 am till 5pm.
“There will be lots of good stuff that everybody needs,” said event co-chair Connie Amendola. All proceeds from the sale will benefit Women Who Care grants and the endowment fund. Nancy Caskey, co-chair of the sale, said the group is just starting to collect items. “It is just in time to donate those gently used items as you spring clean your attics and garages. ” she said. “We had lots of good shopping and it’s all to help a good cause,” Nancy went on to say. Items will be priced anywhere from 25 cents to $10.
Amendola and Caskey are among the many founding members of the organization and are both on the events committee, where they volunteered to co-chair the sale. Last year the group added over $2,000 to their grants and endowment fund that allowed the group to distribute over $15,000 back to the community.
The purpose of the Women Who Care (WWC) organization is to strengthen local communities by engaging and educating women in philanthropy and issues that are important to families. The funds that are collected through the WWC are distributed to various local charitable organizations. The funds collected are awarded each year to 501(c)3 non-profit organizations “New members are welcome and (are) important for our organization to grow,” added Caskey.
Any woman donating to the WWC fund is considered a member. Those contributing $100 or more will be deemed a member with voting privileges about where funds are distributed.
