The David L. DeLullo Sr. and Leroy C. Krise Scholarships
The David L. DeLullo Sr. and Leroy C. Krise Scholarships
Two new scholarships have been established at the Elk County Community Foundation. The David L. DeLullo Sr. Scholarship and the Leroy C. Krise Scholarship will each provide one $1000 scholarship for a high school student or adult learner from Elk County who are pursuing a post-secondary education, including technical schools, and demonstrates financial need.
David L. DeLullo, Sr. was born in Force, PA. He and his wife raised nine children in St. Marys. He was self-employed in a number of different businesses. David was involved in various fundraising and charitable events that benefited children and families. This scholarship was established as a way to continue his generosity, dedication, and commitment to helping those in need.
Leroy C. Krise, a resident of Ridgway, was involved in numerous businesses. He had a passion and great knowledge of the powdered metal industries in the Elk County area. Leroy was a very kind and generous man and was always helping someone in need. This scholarship has been established in his memory for Elk County residents that are pursuing higher education and demonstrate a financial need.
These scholarships are two of 89 scholarships administered by the Elk County Community Foundation which distributed nearly $180,000 in 2017. In addition to these awards, the Community Foundation is involved with the Partnership for Access to Higher Education (PATH) and will nominate all students who receive a scholarship from them to the PATH program. This program is administered through PHEAA which provides matching dollars to qualified candidates. Last year the Foundation had over $66,000 matched to 63 students in our area.
The scholarship applications will be available in all Elk County Area High School Guidance offices, by contacting the Community Foundation.
